Jeffrey Odiorne

My name is Jeffrey Odiorne. Welcome to my website.

The painting at the top is titled “Dusk” and is from my series of urban impressions. This was inspired by the years I spent living and working in New York City. The second painting is titled "Myakka Sky #2" and is an impression of the natural beauty of the south Florida area where I currently live. Together they reflect my ongoing interest in abstraction, color, and discovery, as you will see in the images ahead.

I became interested in art at a very early age. When I was two years old, my parents rented a farmhouse in rural Chester County, Pennsylvania, which was owned by the renowned artist Wharton Esherick, whose studio was nearby. We lived there for ten years and I was fascinated by the creativity that I saw everywhere, every day.

Inspired to pursue a career in art, I studied Fine Art at Cornell University for three semesters before transferring to the Philadelphia Museum College of Art where I received a BFA degree.

Following a decades-long career in the highly competitive world of New York advertising as a Graphic Designer, Art Director and Creative Director, I devoted my creativity exclusively to painting. I enrolled in painting classes at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, the Ringling College of Art & Design, and studio courses with artist Kassem Amoudi at the Main Line and Wayne art centers in suburban Philadelphia. I found the continuing education and inspiration to be invaluable while I embarked on my new journey.

I continue to draw inspiration from artists across many disciplines, including abstract painters, Pop artists, impressionists, and realists. I also follow the work of many established and emerging artists online and through my extensive collection of art books that I peruse often, including twelve about Picasso and thirteen about David Hockney.

My own style continues to evolve in a variety of directions. I am equally interested in the gritty textures of the city as I am in the calming rhythms and beauty of nature. One consistent element is an energetic use of color. Some critics have described me as a "colorist."

Many of the paintings shown here are in private collections, but others are available. I paint almost every day and update the website frequently with new work.
